Hair and beauty salon (or services) website must-haves

Whilst I am using the reference throughout of a hair and beauty salon this also applies to hairdressers, hair stylists, make up artists and beauticians too.

Your salon’s online presence is now more important than ever. In today’s digital age, potential clients often turn to your website as their first point of contact, seeking information and reassurance before booking their hair or beauty appointment. That’s why it’s crucial to ensure that your website not only meets their expectations but also leaves a lasting impression. In this blog post, we’ll explore the essential elements that every hair and beauty salon website should have. From professional design to high-quality images, easy booking forms to clear navigation, it’ll guide you through the process of creating a website that truly reflects your salon’s unique experience and attracts your ideal clientele. Let’s transform your website into a powerful tool that showcases your expertise and drives bookings.

The key elements a hair and beauty salon website should have

Nowadays most people will head to your website before they book for the first time with your salon or will look it up to check information before their next appointment. Your website needs to ensure that it covers what a potential client needs to know and will be searching for. It is a great opportunity to make a positive impression by reflecting the experience of your salon. You can help to make the admin easier too by having a booking form directly on your website too.

1. A professional website design

Whether you are an independent hairdresser or beautician or run a thriving salon having a professional website will help to convey the right image to your potential clients. It can give a sense of the experience that they will have with you before they book.

2. Be beautifully on brand

Whether your salon is elegant, modern, funky or minimal should all be reflected with your visual identity and website design too. It gives potential clients a sense of what your salon is all about and who it is for. Many salons serve a wide demographic of clients but you will also be attracting in a certain type of client based on appearance and values. For example when I lived in a different area there was a vegan salon that was a bit of a drive away but I booked in there because they shared my values. Now I look out for salons that have cruelty free and vegan products.

More and more salons like yours are taking steps to be more sustainable such as recycling as many ‘aspects ‘disposable’ products as possible. It’s great to use your website to showcase your businesses values, the services that you offer and lead visitors through to booking services.

3. Feature high quality and relevant images

Really this is another basic and not specific to hair and beauty salons but it’s worth saying anyway. In an ideal world you will have high quality images of clients that you have worked with but often this is better suited to a gallery section. Professionally taken photos or stock photos can be used as the larger feature images across your website. And if possible I would recommend having some ‘personal brand’ or business photos taken to show you, your salon or workspace and any team members. This helps to create connection for clients and a more welcoming, personable feel to your website too.

4. A booking form for a streamlined booking process

As an introvert who has previously struggled with social anxiety… I vote for the booking form option on a hair and beauty salon website. This makes it easier for people to book in with your services without the need to call or email. Making it more accessible for many. Ideally this would show availability and allow people to directly book the service on their preferred date and with a chosen member of staff to. There are some great WordPress plugins providing booking forms for salon websites and hair and beauty services.

You can then link the booking form to automated emails that provide information and remind the clients of their appointment. In fact you could even save admin time further by allowing the client to cancel their appointment from those emails or an account area.

5. Clear navigation to guide visitors through your website

Keep your navigation clear and simple to allow visitors to flow easily through your website and encourage newsletter sign ups or bookings. Whilst I wouldn’t always recommend this for websites a ‘Book Now’ button in the header is a great option for a hair and beauty salon website.

6. Gallery section of client makeovers

Because a hair and beauty website is going to be so visually focussed it can be a great place to showcase previous the work that you do in a gallery. You could go simple and just show results or potentially show the before/after. Another idea is to potentially use your Instagram feed if you share a lot of photos there and bring that onto the website.

7. Hair and beauty services page/s

Depending on the level of detail per service you would either have one service page detailing everything or split them into categories of service such as ‘hair’, ‘nails’, ‘beauty’, and ‘massage’ for example. It’s helpful to add relevant information such as service description, timeframe and price.

8. Salon staff page

If you are a larger salon then having an easy to edit staff page is helpful to have. You would include a photo of each member of staff, biographies that include their experience, training and any specific expertise. If it’s just you then make this a compelling about page and you can be a bit more personal about why you started and your passions.

9. Easy to find contact Information

Whether you intend to have a booking form or not for a ‘local business’ as opposed to an online business it is particularly important to have easily accessible contact information. Many customers will search for your website just so they can then call you to book or cancel appointments. Making this easy to see such as in the header or footer of every page as well as a dedicated contact page helps the information be easily found.

On the contact page you might consider adding locations, maps, directions and opening hours as well as the usual contact information of phone and email.

10. FAQ/Information Page to help inform clients what to expect before and after their appointments

This one is more optional but can help to cut down admin by having a page that covers typical questions and information such as strand or patch test information, cancellation policies, allergy advice etc. You can then link to this page from automated emails after someone books too.

11. Make sure the website is responsive

You never know what device someone will be accessing your website from so a responsive website it a must-have nowadays. It means even if someone is out and about they can still easily view your website and hopefully choose to book your services!

Other considerations for your hair and beauty website

A blog section

Using a blog section to share your expertise can help to keep your website content feeling fresh and it also indicates to the search engines that a website is being updated.

Email sign up

Collecting email addresses of current clients and website visitors who may be infrequent clients or interested means that you can then send out promotional emails that may help to encourage bookings. You can also mix in your professional advice and showcase recent work that you have done.

Why an online presence matters even for locally based hair and beauty salons, hairdressers, hair stylists beauticians and make up artists.

Your website is very important in today’s digital world. It can even act a bit like an extra member of staff by helping to manage bookings, enquiries and FAQ’s.
